You look out the bus window after a long day of travelling and see the hot Queensland sun melting into the distant hills, releasing a symphony of colours across the sky, announcing to all creation that another day is drawing to a close. As you sit there you think about the sermon you preached last night to a small group of country youth and with that thought comes a sense of triumph and victory… another fear conquered. It has only been eight weeks since you left home but already so much about you has changed. You have touched the reality and depth of God that has set you on a course of adventure and fulfilment. Like the night you were standing on the beach listening to the waves and looking at the stars just feeling the stillness of the night. In that moment where there was no one watching, no one needing to be impressed, you found yourself standing before God with nothing to offer but the rawness of your humanity and your tormented heart. Beyond your brokenness and fear you come to Him, perplexed yet aware that He desired your affection…He desired you. You remember thinking that He is such a mystery. Yet you found beauty in the simplicity of moving beyond your questions and apprehensions to where all you knew was that you liked the way He made you feel. As the last ray of light slips over the horizon and the first star appears in the sky you search for a word to describe how you feel. Never has the future been so uncertain, nor have you ever been so deeply challenged and yet you feel you have finally found yourself standing in the Son… free! |
